FanDuel MLB: Sunday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Sunday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

Ivan Nova, PIT at CIN ($7,500): Nova has been nothing short of dominant since being acquired from the Yankees, posting six quality starts in eight appearances and owning a 2.41 ERA while striking out 43 in 52.1 innings. The only concern here is familiarity, as he'll face the Reds for the third time since August 6. He's allowed four runs while striking out nine in 16 innings during those outings, including a complete game victory two starts ago.

Catcher

Luke Maile, TAM at BAL ($2,500): None of the Rays' top hitters seem like an ideal fit against lefty Wade Miley, who has allowed 10 runs in his last 6.1 innings over two starts, so going cheap in a potentially high-scoring contest makes sense. Maile has a 36.0 strikeout rate against lefties, so he's got a negative floor, but he also has two long balls in 24 at-bats against southpaws, making him an ideal target in tournament formats.

First Base

Brandon Moss, STL at SFG ($3,200): Moss is a feast of famine option Sunday against righty Albert Suarez, who has not lasted more than five innings since July 3. Moss has hit 23 of his 26 homers against right-handers, owning a team-high .312 ISO against them with a .355 wOBP.

Second Base

Devon Travis, TOR at LAA ($3,500): Travis is a regular in my daily league selections, as he offers plenty of power and on base potential in a potent lineup. The Jays offense is one to target Sunday, and there is nothing wrong at all with paying up for Edwin Encarnacion ($4,300) or Josh Donaldson ($4,500), but Travis offers a cheaper option atop the lineup against Alex Meyer, who has only managed 7.1 innings in two appearances with the Angels, allowing five runs. Travis' .363 wOBP against righties certainly doesn't hurt his cause.

Third Base

Adrian Beltre, TEX vs. OAK($3,300): A whopping 15 players check in at a higher price at the hot corner than Beltre, who owns a .418 wOBP and .273 ISO against lefties. Beltre had 13 hits in his last eight games entering Saturday, four of which cleared the fences. Facing lefty Ross Detwiler and his 5.31 ERA and .353 wOBP allowed to righties looks appealing.

Shortstop

Elvis Andrus, TEX vs. OAK ($2,900): Andrus has quietly put together a respectable season, which includes a .368 wOBP against lefties. Hitting in the nine hole limits his chances, but he offers a cheap option at a non-premium position against the aforementioned Detwiler, who has only lasted seven innings total in his last two starts, allowing six runs.

Outfield

Andrew McCutchen, PIT at CIN ($4,000): Outfield prices today aren't for the timid, so spending up here seems to be a requirement. McCutchen could go unnoticed amongst the top options, but brings a white hot bat into Sunday. McCutchen has posted five straight double-digit fantasy point games, thanks in large part to 10 RBI in that span. The Reds will hope to piece together nine innings, starting with Keyvius Sampson, whom McCutchen has taken deep in eight at-bats.

Matt Kemp, ATL vs WAS ($3,500): Kemp has nine straight games with at least nine fantasy points, topping 18 points in five of those contests. Kemp has been better against lefties than righties, but Nats' starter Joe Ross is making his first appearance since July 2 and will likely be on a pitch count, giving the Braves a chance to see some seldom-used relievers on a getaway day.

Yasmany Tomas, ARI at LAD ($2,600): This appears to be a small price to pay for Tomas' power potential. He'll face a rookie in Jose De Leon, who has allowed three long balls in 11 career innings, all of which went to right-handed hitters.
