Yahoo DFS Baseball: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

PITCHER

Sean Manaea, OAK at SEA ($35): Manaea has put together an outstanding end to his season, with a minuscule 0.50 ERA, .164 batting average against and .203 wOBA over his last three starts, as well as just two earned runs allowed in his last five starts. He scored a solid 17 fantasy points against this same Mariners squad on Aug. 12 and with Seattle now eliminated from wild-card contention with a heartbreaking loss Saturday, he could be facing a deflated squad looking to just finish out the season.

Kevin Gausman, BAL at NYY ($37): The Orioles come in tied with the Blue Jays for an American League wild card and are relying on Gausman to help them take care of their business against the Yankees. Those are fairly good odds on Baltimore's side, as the right-hander has dominated the Bronx Bombers this season to the tune of a 2-1 record, 0.80 ERA and .205 batting average against over 33.2 innings. His last two outings against them have netted 33 and 36 fantasy points, respectively, and the Yankees also have a 20.1 percent strikeout rate and mediocre .312 wOBA against right-handed pitching.

CATCHER

Jonathan Lucroy, TEX vs. TB ($11): Lucroy is nicely priced for a home matchup in hitter-friendly Globe Life Park against Chase Whitley, who'll be making his first start since recovering from Tommy John surgery, following four relief appearances. Whitley has given up a .318 wOBA and 33.3 percent hard contact rate to righty bats over his small 2016 sample, while Lucroy has a .306 batting average, 14 homers, .365 wOBA and 32.7 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitching.

FIRST BASE

David Ortiz, BOS vs. TOR ($20): The Red Sox are a half-game behind the Indians for the no . 2 seed in the playoffs, giving Ortiz's final regular-season game some extra intrigue. Big Papi is known for his contributions in pivotal moments, making him an even more appealing play than usual. He'll take his hacks against Aaron Sanchez, who's given up 11 of his 14 homers on the season to left-handed hitters, along with a 32.7 percent hard contact rate. Ortiz has a .318 batting average, 33 homers, .353 ISO and .439 wOBA against right-handed pitching in his storybook final season, and he has a .454 wOBA at Fenway Park this year.

SECOND BASE

Jonathan Schoop, BAL at NYY ($8): Schoop flashed his massive upside with a two-homer, five-RBI game Friday that netted 26 fantasy points, making his near-minimum price particularly extraordinary. He draws a favorable road matchup against Yankees rookie Luis Cessa, who's yielded a .360 wOBA, 3.12 HR/9, 5.45 xFIP, 25 percent HR/FB rate and 32.2 percent hard contact rate to righties at Yankee Stadium. Schoop checks in with 20 of his 25 homers on the season off righties, along with a .326 wOBA.

THIRD BASE

Todd Frazier, CWS vs. MIN ($20): Frazier has already joined the 40-homer club and has a chance to tack on an extra couple of dingers against Jose Berrios, who's surrendered a massive .440 wOBA, 2.39 HR/9 and 38.5 percent hard contact rate to right-handed hitters, along with a 7.27 xFIP when facing them away from Target Field. Frazier has double-digit fantasy points in seven of his last nine games, as well as a .322 wOBA, including .371 over his last 29 games, and 30 homers against right-handed pitching.

SHORTSTOP

Troy Tulowitzki, TOR at BOS ($11): Tulowitzki makes for an intriguing value play against Red Sox starter David Price, who's had a rough time keeping the ball in Fenway Park against right-handed hitters all season. Price has yielded 22 home runs to righty bats overall, including 13 at home, where they've also made hard contact against him at a 36.5 percent rate. Tulowitzki comes in with a .324 wOBA against southpaws, along with hits in five of his last six games.

OUTFIELD

Jose Bautista, TOR at BOS ($20): Bautista comes in with a solid history against David Price, as evidenced by a .345/.426/.724 line over 58 career at-bats, which includes four doubles, six homers and 14 RBI. Bautista also has a .332 wOBA against lefties on the road, and a .372 wOBA in his 28 September games.

Melky Cabrera, CWS vs. MIN ($19): The switch-hitting Cabrera is another strong play against Jose Berrios, who's yielded a .386 wOBA to left-handed hitters. Cabrera comes in with a .348 wOBA against righties at U.S. Cellular Field, and a .317 batting average, five homers and a .377 wOBA over his 29 September games, a stretch that's included 11 double-digit fantasy point efforts.

Tyler Naquin, CLE at KC ($9): Naquin wraps up the regular season portion of a solid rookie campaign against Ian Kennedy, whom he's already homered twice off of in just seven career at-bats. Kennedy has given up a whopping 32 homers on the season overall, with half of those coming at the hands of left-handed bats, which have also made hard contact against him at a 38.7 percent rate at Kauffmann Stadium. Naquin has blasted all 14 of his round-trippers against right-handed pitching, while also tallying a .381 wOBA, .227 ISO, and 40.8 percent hard contact rate versus that handedness. Meanwhile, his 25 percent HR/FB rate dovetails nicely with Kennedy's bloated 50 percent fly ball rate surrendered to lefty bats at home.
