DraftKings MLB: Monday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

Pitcher

Carlos Carrasco, CLE vs. TEX ($11,600): The short slate essentially demands that players take at least one of the five-figure pitching assets, and Carrasco has the best matchup of the three by a country mile. The Rangers are a bottom-10 team against the changeup, which has been the best pitch in Carrasco's arsenal so far this season (7.7 RAA). It is also worth noting that Texas holds just a .294 wOBA on the road while striking out nearly 27 percent of the time.

Jeff Samardzija, SF vs. COL ($8,400): I'm always caught off guard by Colorado's stark home and road splits. The mashers of Coors Field are a bottom-10 team away from Denver according to wOBA, and strike out 24 percent of the time. Meanwhile, Samardzija carries a 28 percent strikeout rate to go along with the 5.0 RAA he has tallied with his slider, a pitch he throws a quarter of the time.

Catcher

Yan Gomes, CLE vs. TEX ($2,900):Cole Hamels has looked nothing like the perennial Cy Young Award contender we saw for so many years in Philadelphia, as he has struck out less than 12 percent of the batters he has faced this season. Gomes is always a nice salary relief option against lefties, having notched a .231 ISO. Hamels pitched well in two rehab outings while recovering from an oblique injury but hasn't seen a major-league mound in two months as a result of the ailment.

First Base

Matt Davidson, CWS vs. NYY ($3,900): Davidson has quietly become a powerhouse in the Chicago lineup, notching an ISO over .300 from both sides of the platoon, as well as a .414 wOBA against southpaws. Jordan Montgomery has thrown the ball well this season, but his fastball has registered a -7.2 RAA over 13 starts.

Second Base

Daniel Murphy, WAS vs. CHC ($5,200):Eddie Butler's peripherals appear to be hiding a dirty little secret, as he holds a 6.24 xFIP against lefties. Murphy is a hitter who can force regression in a hurry, as evidenced by the .235 ISO and .400 wOBA he has tallied against his opposite hand over 221 at-bats.

Third Base

Kris Bryant, CHC at WAS ($4,700): Bryant should be considered a bargain whenever he can be had against a lefty for under $5,000, as he has tallied a .339 ISO and a .461 wOBA against his opposite hand over 56 at-bats. Gio Gonzalez has allowed a 1.6 HR/9 rate against righties to go along with a 34 percent hard contact rate.

Shortstop

Javier Baez, CHC at WAS ($3,600): The Cubs feature a number of hitters who do their best work when faced off with southpaws, and Baez is higher on the list than some might think. He has notched a .283 ISO against lefties over 60 at-bats while collecting a 36 percent hard contact rate over that span.

Outfield

Cameron Maybin, LAA at LAD ($4,200): Maybin has been seeing the ball well in 2017, as evidenced by his .345 wOBA in 59 games. The 30-year-old could be in line to do some damage against opposing starter Rich Hill, as he has logged a 2.0 RAA against the curveball, and Hill's bender registers a -5.4 RAA.

Cody Bellinger, LAD vs. LAA ($5,500): Dodger Stadium is yielding its share of homers this season, which is likely bad news for Ricky Nolasco, who has allowed 23 long balls in just 84.1 innings. Bellinger has been on a power binge since making his debut at the end of April. He has tallied an absurd .405 ISO from both sides of the platoon.

Aaron Judge, NYY at CWS ($5,600):David Holmberg has done a good job of preventing runs this season, but it's hard to imagine that he will be able to fade the big bats of the Yankees while possessing a swinging strike rate of just five percent. Judge has notched a .383 ISO against left-handed pitchers in 2017.
