FanDuel MLB: Saturday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Saturday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

Madison Bumgarner, SFG at SDP ($11,000): The price here is admittedly steep given the unlikelihood that Bumgarner works deep into the contest, but the Padres' woeful efforts against lefties are difficult to ignore. As a squad, they have just a .276 wOBA, 69 wRC+ and 26.1 strikeout rate. Current Padres also have a .187 batting average and .561 OPS against Bumgarner.

Catcher

Mike Zunino, SEA at CWS ($2,400): Zunino limped mightily into the All-Star break, going just 2-for-23 with 10 strikeouts in seven July outings, hence the low buy-in. White Sox starter Derek Holland has been lit up by opposite-handed bats however, allowing a .386 wOBA and an 18.6 percent HR/FB while also surrendering a 42.7 percent fly ball rate. Zunino has feasted on southpaws, owning a .368 wOBA, 135 wRC+ and a whopping 36.4 percent HR/FB rate.

First Base

Joe Mauer, MIN at HOU ($3,200): Mauer clearly comes with risk as we await word on his Friday batting practice before confirming his return from the disabled list. Assuming he's back, he makes for a nice, cheap buy-in against a struggling Joe Musgrove. Mauer has a solid .358 wOBA and 122 wRC+ against righties, while Musgrove has allowed 18 runs over his last 15.0 innings and is surrendering a .354 wOBA to opposite-handed hitters.

Second Base

Erik Gonzalez, CLE at OAK ($2,300): Gonzalez entered Friday with only 69 career at-bats at the major-league level, and he's gone deep just twice, showing how little upside there is here. But at this price, he'd only need to reach base to provide a return, and his career .381 wOBA and 139 wRC+ against righties suggest he can at least do that, if not more.

Third Base

Kris Bryant, CHC at BAL ($3,700): The Cubs got after Kevin Gausman early Friday, but Bryant wasn't in on that act. He's got a great shot at redemption Saturday against Wade Miley, however. Bryant has a team-leading .449 wOBA, 179 wRC+, and 1.093 OPS against southpaws. Miley has been hit hard by opposite-handed batters, allowing a 33.2 percent hard contact rate and 19.7 percent HR/FB. Bryant counters with a 33.2 percent HR/FB against lefties on the road.

Shortstop

Dansby Swanson, ATL vs ARI ($2,300): There are three pitchers priced at $9,900 or greater, so you're going to have to take some lower-priced options at non-glory positions to fit them in. Swanson offers just that, as he ranks fourth among Brave regulars with a .373 wOBA and 130 wRC+ against southpaws. That figures to fair well against Patrick Corbin, who has a 7.37 road ERA, where he's surrendering a .439 wOBA and 1.067 OPS to righties.

Outfield

Joc Pederson, LAD at MIA ($3,600): That Pederson is priced equally to teammate Cody Bellinger doesn't sit well, but it's going to lead to awfully low ownership and he comes with a similar profile against right-handed arms. Pederson has a .376 wOBA and 136 wRC+ on the road against opposite-handed pitchers, while Marlins starter Jose Urena has allowed lefties to post a .355 wOBA against him since June 1.

Marwin Gonzalez, HOU vs. MIN ($3,500): The 'Stros offense is clicking on all cylinders, having scored at least 10 runs in five of their last seven games. It's led to limited discounts on their bats with pseudo-ace Ervin Santana opposing them Saturday. Gonzalez brings steady splits, leading the team with a .421 wOBA and 169 wRC+, and he's in great form of late, having driven in runs in eight straight while posting at least 9.7 fantasy points in each game.

Gregory Polanco, PIT vs. STL ($3,100): Polanco went into the break on a tear, going 13-for-32 with two long balls in July. It led to a .462 wOBA, 191 wRC+ and 1.097 OPS. He's fared better against opposite-handed pitchers, and Cardinals starter Lance Lynn is allowing a .378 wOBA to lefties on the road and a 4.42 ERA outside of Busch Stadium.
