Yahoo DFS Baseball: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Tuesday's evening MLB slate begins at 7:05 PM Eastern time and features all 30 teams. The players below range all over the price spectrum, but each of them offers strong bang for the buck thanks to platoon advantages and favorable matchups.

PITCHER

Michael Wacha, STL at SD ($35): Wacha's been unlucky this year, as his 3.75 FIP is actually lower than the 3.87 mark he posted during a 17-7 campaign in 2015, even though his 4.20 ERA is far worse than his 3.38 mark from two years ago. That luck should turn around in this road start against San Diego's league-worst offense, making the 2012 first-rounder a terrific value at only $35. Wacha's 22.0 percent strikeout rate makes him a serious threat in that category considering the Padres strike out third-most in the league at 9.27 times per game, while there's little risk of much production against him since San Diego ranks dead last in runs per game at 3.85.

Julio Teheran, ATL vs. TEX ($40): Teheran's another pitcher priced near the middle of the price spectrum that's likely to finish among the night's leaders in scoring. He has held opponents to seven runs over 27 innings for a 2.33 ERA in his past four starts while coincidentally piling up a 27:7 K:BB during that stretch. Maintaining that elite form shouldn't be difficult at home against a Rangers team that ranks 27th with a .689 road OPS outside the hitter-friendly confines of Globe Life Park in Arlington.

CATCHER

Salvador Perez, KC at DET ($8): Perez's $8 price doesn't do his righty-on-righty prowess justice, as the catcher owns a respectable .331 wOBA and has hit 34 of his 43 extra-base hits in that split. That success should continue against Tigers right-hander Anibal Sanchez, who has allowed a .415 wOBA to right-handed hitters and only a .369 mark to those from the left side. Sanchez has also left much to be desired with an 8.37 ERA over just 33.1 innings in his past seven starts.

FIRST BASE

Edwin Encarnacion, CLE at CWS ($24): White Sox lefty David Holmberg has a 3.55 ERA, but that number's likely to climb in a hurry given his 5.86 FIP and 6.17 xFIP in 50.2 innings. Encarnacion should help close the gap between Holmberg's ERA and underlying numbers, as the veteran slugger has punished left-handed pitching with a .376 career wOBA. He's also a major power threat every time out and is in the midst of a sixth consecutive campaign with over 30 home runs.

SECOND BASE

DJ LeMahieu, COL vs. SF ($20): You couldn't handpick a better scenario to use LeMahieu than this home matchup against San Francisco southpaw Ty Blach. Blach is allowing a .347 wOBA to right-handed hitters and has a 5.57 ERA outside the pitcher-friendly confines of AT&T Park. Meanwhile, LeMahieu has torched left-handed pitching to the tune of a .424 wOBA while taking advantage of Coors Field's league-leading 1.31 park factor with a .463 home wOBA against lefties.

THIRD BASE

Nolan Arenado, COL vs. SF ($22): Arenado averages more than one RBI per game at home thanks to a combination of his own skills and his teammates' ability to get on base in front of him at hitter-friendly Coors Field. Anything short of a multi-RBI effort would be disappointing in this appetizing matchup, especially given Arenado's monstrous .522 wOBA against left-handed pitching. He's easily the favorite to lead third basemen in scoring here despite being priced below four alternatives at the position.

SHORTSTOP

Jorge Polanco, MIN at TB ($23): The switch-hitting Polanco has produced 27 of his 39 extra-base hits batting from the left side and has a .021 higher wOBA from there compared to the right, so he's primed to excel against Tampa Bay right-hander Jake Odorizzi. Odorizzi sports a 6.49 ERA over his past six starts and has pitched at least five innings only twice in that span. Batting third in Minnesota's order should yield some high-leverage opportunities for Polanco in what should be a high-scoring contest.

OUTFIELD

George Springer, HOU at SEA ($16): Springer has punished left-handed pitching all year, sporting a .418 wOBA over 140 plate appearances in that split. That success should continue against Ariel Miranda, who has an ugly 6.84 ERA over 51.1 innings over his past 10 starts. Seattle's Safeco Field also represents a .11 rise in park factor over Springer's home venue Minute Maid Park.

Andrew Benintendi, BOS vs. TOR ($21): Things have clicked at the plate for Benintendi of late, as the seventh overall pick in the 2015 draft has a .327/.412/.558 line since Aug. 3. Expect the left-handed slugger to stay hot against scuffling righty Marco Estrada, who has allowed 18 earned runs in 21.1 innings for a 7.59 ERA in his last four starts.

Mark Trumbo, BAL vs. NYY ($12): Trumbo has launched 28 of his 90 home runs since the start of the 2015 season against left-handed pitching, and could well add another one against familiar foe CC Sabathia. All 15 home runs against the veteran southpaw have come from the right side, making the right-handed hitting Trumbo a strong power threat given his .334 wOBA in that split.
