Yahoo DFS Baseball: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Tuesday's 15-game MLB slate features an early, 12:10 PM Eastern time start. The pitchers recommended below both have the potential to finish among this slate's scoring leaders based on recent form and matchup, but they cost just $37 and $35, respectively. They're joined by hitters all over the price spectrum, ranging from $12 to $24.

PITCHER

Lance Lynn, MIN at CWS ($37): Lynn took a few starts to get used to his new home in Minnesota, but he's settled in nicely with a 2.88 ERA over his past nine starts. The former Cardinals starter also has a 22.2 percent strikeout rate, so he should produce healthy contributions in that category as well. It helps that he gets to face a White Sox lineup that averages the fifth-fewest runs (3.82) and strikes out third-most (9.44 per game).

Freddy Peralta, MIL vs. KC ($35): Peralta gets to make his highly anticipated home debut in a nearly ideal matchup against a Royals offense that ranks last at 3.57 runs per game. The rookie phenom's 41.0 percent strikeout rate through three starts gives him an immense ceiling, and he should rack up plenty of whiffs while drawing energy from the Miller Park crowd.

CATCHER

Elias Diaz, PIT at NYM ($12): Diaz has thrived against left-handed pitching in a limited role, and he should get the opportunity to start behind the plate against New York's Steven Matz with Francisco Cervelli (concussion) on the disabled list. In 30 at-bats against lefties this season, Diaz owns a .473 wOBA. Meanwhile, Matz has surrendered a .388 wOBA to the 113 right-handed batters he's faced at Citi Field this season.

FIRST BASE

Eric Hosmer, SD at TEX ($14): Hosmer's a nice value pick at first base given his affordability and favorable matchup. Look for the left-handed slugger to take advantage of Globe Life Park in Arlington's fourth-ranked, 1.27 park factor against subpar righty Austin Bibens-Dirkx. Bibens-Dirkx has a 5.91 career home ERA and has allowed a .362 wOBA to left-handed batters in his hitter-friendly home venue.

SECOND BASE

DJ LeMahieu, COL at SF ($15): LeMahieu's pummeling left-handed pitching as usual to the tune of a .422 wOBA this season, and his .566 road mark in that split shows that his success isn't merely a product of Coors Field. Giants lefty Derek Holland will be hard-pressed to slow LeMahieu down, as right-handed batters have a .361 wOBA against Holland this season and produced a .408 mark in 2017.

THIRD BASE

Danny Valencia, BAL vs. SEA ($15): Valencia's an established presence against left-handed pitching, with a .369 career wOBA in that split. A matchup with Seattle's James Paxton doesn't look particularly appealing at first glance, but the southpaw's recent struggles suggest Baltimore's cleanup hitter should find success here. Paxton's past two starts have seen him allow 10 earned runs and a trio of homers in just 7.1 innings.

SHORTSTOP

Xander Bogaerts, BOS vs. LAA ($19): Bogaerts' .362 wOBA against lefties this season is right in with his .363 career mark, and he'll get to face an underwhelming left-hander here in John Lamb. Lamb has allowed a .374 wOBA to right-handed hitters in his career and has just 8.1 major-league innings under his belt over the past two seasons.

OUTFIELD

Nick Markakis, ATL vs. CIN ($19): Those who can't afford Freddie Freeman ($25) at first base can still find solid left-handed value in Atlanta's lineup. Markakis has a .364 wOBA against right-handed pitching, and he's primed to keep rolling against ex-Met Matt Harvey, who has surrendered a .386 wOBA to batters from the left side this season.

Mitch Haniger, SEA at BAL ($16): Haniger has a significantly better career wOBA in righty-on-righty situations (.362) than against lefties (.317). This season's splits have told a similar story, as he's at .361 against righties and .347 facing southpaws. That unusual preference puts Haniger in an excellent position to succeed against Baltimore righty Kevin Gausman, who has surrendered a .370 wOBA to batters from the right side.

Mookie Betts, BOS vs. LAA ($24): If you have the money for one big bat in this slate, it's tough to find a better option than Betts. His average of 10.7 fantasy points per game leads all outfielders and Betts' numbers against lefties this season have been spectacular (.461 wOBA in 58 at-bats, including a .594 mark in 24 such at-bats at Fenway Park). Those numbers could climb even further given this favorable matchup against Lamb.
