Yahoo DFS Baseball: Tuesday Picks

Yahoo DFS Baseball: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Tuesday's 15-game MLB slate begins at 1:05 PM Eastern with a rivalry game between the Red Sox and Yankees. There's no need to pay up for the top options on the mound here, as a pair of less expensive guys who have pitched well of late are primed to keep doing so.

PITCHER

Jameson Taillon, PIT vs. KC ($45): Taillon probably has the highest floor of any pitcher in action here. The last time he gave up more than three earned runs was May 22, and he's 8-2 with 19 runs allowed in 71 innings over his past 11 starts -- that works out to a tidy 2.41 ERA. Throw in a solid 22.0 percent strikeout rate for the season, and it's hard to see Taillon disappointing owners against a Royals offense that's averaging just 3.91 runs per game.

Sandy Alcantara, MIA vs. WAS ($35): Alcantara allowed just one run despite walking five in five innings when asked to make a start in June, but he's been dominant since getting called back up in September. Im two starts since, the 23-year-old righty has allowed only two runs on five hits while posting a 12:5 K:BB over 14 innings. With a 1.42 ERA in 19 innings overall this year, Alcantara is primed to provide good value at $35 against Washington with Marlins Park's 0.74 park factor working in his favor.

CATCHER

Willson Contreras, CHC at ARI ($9): Contreras is too good a value to pass up at $9. His wOBA against righties is only .325, but the catcher's .362 mark against lefties should also come into play with Matt Andriese on the mound for Arizona. The right-handed Andriese is an "opener" rather than a starter, with no more than 3.2 innings pitched in any appearance this season. With plenty of looks against Arizona's bullpen, Contreras should benefit from Chase Field's 10th-ranked, 1.07 park factor.

FIRST BASE

Tyler Austin, MIN at DET ($16): Austin's a nice discount option at first base given his .354 wOBA against left-handed pitching. He faces a particularly vulnerable lefty here in Detroit's Daniel Norris, who has a 6.14 ERA in 29.1 innings this season. While Austin's been battling a back injury recently, he took batting practice Monday and is likely to return soon. Still, make sure he's in the lineup before locking Austin in.

SECOND BASE

Ozzie Albies, ATL vs. STL ($12): The switch-hitting Albies has been much better from the right side this season, with a .387 wOBA in 178 at-bats against left-handed pitching. At just $12, he offers great bang for the buck against Cardinals southpaw Austin Gomber, who just got burned for seven earned runs over three innings by the Dodgers in his last start.

THIRD BASE

Mike Moustakas, MIL vs. CIN ($16): Moustakas has just a .344 wOBA against righties this year, but that number should go up by the time he's through with Reds starter Michael Lorenzen. Lorenzen will be making his first start since 2015 and has surrendered a .351 wOBA to left-handed hitters out of the bullpen this season.

SHORTSTOP

Willy Adames, TB at TEX ($17): Adames has done most of his damage in righty-on-righty situations, as his .339 wOBA in that split is far better than his .269 mark against lefties. Meanwhile, the 183 right-handed batters to face Rangers righty Yovani Gallardo have produced an astronomical .412 wOBA. Adames' chances of finding success are also helped by the venue, as Globe Life Park in Arlington leads the league with a 1.36 park factor.

OUTFIELD

Franmil Reyes, SD vs. SF ($16): Reyes has been tremendous when facing left-handed pitching, producing a .455 wOBA over his first 60 at-bats in that split. That success should continue against Giants southpaw Derek Holland, who has allowed a .325 wOBA to batters from the right side after surrendering a .408 mark in 2017.

Cedric Mullins, BAL vs. TOR ($11): Left-handed hitters have abused Blue Jays righty Aaron Sanchez this year, with a .377 wOBA. The switch-hitting Mullins is primed to pile onto those struggles, as he's produced a .367 wOBA while batting left-handed. Mullins also maximizes his opportunities to provide value by leading off for the Orioles.

Aaron Hicks, NYY vs. BOS ($15): The switch-hitting Hicks has a .357 wOBA batting left-handed and only a .340 mark hitting from the right side. He'll bat from his preferred left side against Red Sox righty Nathan Eovaldi, who has surrendered a .370 wOBA to hitters from that side on the road this season. Yankee Stadium is one of the rougher road venues for opposing starters, with a third-ranked, 1.16 park factor.
