The final day of the MLB regular season offers several intriguing betting opportunities, including two totals and a moneyline with playoff implications. We're trusting a pair of quality starters in Philadelphia, backing Texas with the AL West still at stake and looking for a low-scoring finale between Colorado and Chicago.
Tampa Bay Rays
vs. Philadelphia Phillies
- Under 7.5 runs (-134 @ FanDuel)
Nick Martinez and Zack Wheeler give this under an excellent starting point. Martinez enters the finale at 15-5 with a 2.94 ERA and 1.07 WHIP across 177.1 innings, while Wheeler owns a 3.06 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 188 strikeouts in 156 frames across 27 starts. Both have demonstrated the command necessary to work deep into games without creating unnecessary traffic. Tampa Bay and Philadelphia each average 4.5 runs per game, but the pitching matchup is considerably stronger than those season-long offensive numbers suggest. With two established starters capable of controlling the first two-thirds of the game, seven runs or fewer is a reasonable target, even if the Phillies have their backs against the wall because a loss could keep them out of the playoffs depending on what happens with the Diamondbacks.
Texas Rangers
vs. Minnesota Twins
- Rangers ML (-124 @ Caesars)
The Rangers enter the regular-season finale with plenty to play for, as their pursuit of the AL West title has reached the final day. The Rangers are expected to counter Minnesota's Dean Kremer with MacKenzie Gore, giving Texas a left-hander who has already shown he can dominate this lineup. Gore struck out 10 Twins across seven innings when he faced Minnesota on June 15, allowing four hits and two walks. Texas also enters Sunday after a 6-2 victory Saturday, while Kremer carries a 4.97 ERA across 83.1 innings. At -124, the Rangers are worth backing with both the matchup and postseason urgency working in their favor.
Colorado Rockies
vs. Chicago White Sox
- Under 8.5 runs (-114 @ BetMGM)
The pitching numbers aren't immediately inviting, with Anthony Kay carrying a 4.53 ERA and Kyle Freeland's sitting at 6.58. Given the pitching matchup, you'd be wise to go for the over. However, the setting matters. Colorado has been a significantly weaker team away from Coors Field, entering Sunday's action with an MLB-worst 26-54 record on the road, while Sunday's game shifts the Rockies into Rate Field. Kay has also provided Chicago with 153 innings this season, giving the White Sox a starter capable of limiting how quickly the game reaches the bullpen. Freeland is the obvious source of risk, but moving Colorado out of Denver reduces the offensive environment considerably. With 8.5 providing protection against a 5-3 type of result, the under is playable at -114.
