Sunday's MLB slate presents several intriguing betting opportunities, and three wagers stand out thanks to favorable matchups and recent trends.

We've highlighted a strikeout prop featuring one of baseball's most reliable starters, a total bases play for one of the game's premier sluggers and a total that has the potential to turn into a high-scoring affair in Los Angeles.

Chicago Cubs  vs. Miami Marlins

Holmes has quietly become a dependable source of strikeouts since joining the Cubs before the trade deadline, and Sunday's matchup against Miami sets up well for another productive outing. Holmes has done an excellent job generating swings and misses with his sinker-slider combination while working deeper into games as the season has progressed.

The Marlins have struggled to consistently handle quality right-handed pitching, and a line of 4.5 strikeouts asks Holmes to reach a number he's capable of hitting before the sixth inning. He has hit this line in his last two starts, and in seven of his 14 starts in 2026 overall. Since joining the Cubs at the trade deadline, the right-hander has posted a 1.55 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 18:9 K:BB across 29 innings (five starts). If Holmes continues attacking the strike zone early and efficiently, this prop offers one of the safer pitching angles on the board.

Arizona Diamondbacks  vs. Houston Astros

Alvarez remains one of baseball's premier run producers, and this matchup gives him another opportunity to showcase his elite power. The Astros slugger has been driving the ball with authority during the second half of the season, and his ability to hit for both average and power makes the total bases market particularly attractive.

Alvarez went hitless with two walks and two strikeouts Saturday, but it's worth noting that he's recorded over 1.5 total bases in three of his last eight games. Eduardo Rodriguez presents a tough matchup on the mound, but if there's a hitter who will have some kind of edge regardless of the pitcher against him, that's Alvarez, who remains alive in the race for the AL Triple Crown.

Washington Nationals vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

  • Over 8.5 runs, +100 @ BetMGM

Even-money odds on this total offer solid value given the offensive potential on both sides. The Dodgers continue to feature one of baseball's deepest lineups, averaging nearly five runs per game this season, and they have enough talent to dismantle any opposing pitcher. However, it'd be flat-out wrong to overlook what the Nationals can bring to the table at the plate as well, since they're among the top offensive teams in the majors.

The Nationals have scored the second-most runs in baseball this season at 743 -- trailing only the Cubs (765) and having scored a whopping 45 more runs scored than the Dodgers. These two offenses rank in the Top 4 in runs scored, Top 3 in OPS and slugging percentage, and in the Top 10 in home runs and on-base percentage. With plus money attached to a total of 8.5, this projects as one of Sunday's better values on the betting board.
