While neither starting pitcher — Walbert Urena and Jeffrey Springs — for Wednesday's series finale is in anything resembling a good spot on paper, the Angels' Urena certainly comes into Sutter Health Park with a better body of work in 2026.
The young right-hander has a deceiving 9-10 record, as it's accompanied by a 2.74 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and s tiny 0.6 HR/9, along with an average fastball velocity of 98.0 mph. Urena has a solid 8.7 K/9 and 12.3 percent swinging strike rate, and despite winning just one of nine decisions on the road, he's mustered a perfectly respectable 3.49 ERA and 0.9 HR/9 in that split that underscores the fact he's primarily been the victim of poor run support.
Urena's Statcast metrics help corroborate the legitimacy of his strong collection of secondary statistics. Urena carries a .207 xBA, .313 xSLG and .281 xwOBA, along with a 3.30 xERA. As one might imagine given his elite velocity, hitters don't square up on his pitches with much success, and he's conceded a highly modest 5.4 percent barrel rate and 35.6 percent hard-hit rate.
Then, it's also worth noting Urena already has one start at Sutter Health under his belt, and the rookie handled it masterfully. Urena scattered four hits over five scoreless innings while recording six strikeouts in his June 20 turn there.

Urena did face the Athletics again six days later at Angel Stadium and opened that outing by blanking them for four more innings before a seven-run fifth chased him. Nevertheless, Urena didn't give up any home runs, and the A's lineup he faced that day included the dangerous Nick Kurtz, who's subsequently been shut down for the season due to a thumb injury.
On the other side, Springs is set for the last start of an utterly forgettable season that's seen the veteran left-hander post a 6.18 ERA and 1.47 WHIP alongside an ugly 4-14 mark, while also posting a massive 2.1 HR/9 that balloons up to 2.6 when at home. Springs also has 6.94 ERA and 1.61 WHIP at Sutter Health, and he's allowed 13 runs over his last three outings there alone.
Current Angels hitters have plenty of experience against Springs, and they've generated a collective .300 average and .904 OPS across 47 career plate appearances against him. Los Angeles has been a thorny matchup for southpaws on the road overall, as the Halos check in with a .321 average, .898 OPS, .382 wOBA and 9.7 wRAA against left-handed pitching when traveling over the last month of play.
Springs' 4.82 xERA suggests he's been somewhat better than his base numbers suggest at times, but his problems keeping the ball in the park are legitimate, and the fact he's allowing his highest barrel rate (9.1 percent) since 2021 helps shed light on the root of the issue. Springs is also surrendering respective .387 and .425 wOBAs on two of his three most-often-thrown pitches, the four-seamer and the slider, offerings on which 25 of the 33 homers he's allowed have been launched.

Given the metrics cited, a same-game parlay that backs the Angels being no worse than tied and at least four runs being scored within the next five innings is very much in play, especially with the two teams combining to average 4.8 runs per first five in the home/road splits that apply to them Wednesday.
Then, the Angels' Zach Neto has a career-high 60 extra-base hits and owns a .322 average, 1.001 OPS and .427 wOBA against left-handed pitching on the road this season, and he's averaging 2.5 hits + runs + RBI per road game this season. Given Springs is surrendering a .288 average and .379 wOBA to right-handed hitters at home and A's relievers have pitched to a .338 BAA and MLB-high .403 wOBA in September in that same split, Neto's H/R/RBI prop is also a consideration.
