Top MLB Betting Picks for September 30: MLB Same-Game Parlays and Props
The latest installment of the storied Red Sox-Yankees rivalry unfolded in Tuesday's Game 1, a decidedly one-sided affair that New York dominated by a 9-0 margin. That leaves the Bronx Bombers in a position to quickly punch their ALDS ticket with a victory in Wednesday's Game 2.
However, the pitching matchup suggests it won't be easy, as the Red Sox will send ace Sonny Gray to the hill for what should be an intriguing duel with the Yankees' Max Freid.
With the stage set for the postseason clash, let's examine a same-game parlay and a player prop for tonight's game:

The full-game projected run total for Wednesday's potential elimination game is a paltry 6.5, speaking volumes about the track record and the respect both starting pitchers have earned with their body of work throughout their respective careers.
As such, our same-game parlay is going to bank on a low-scoring start to the game and hone in on the first three innings, when both hurlers' arms should be at their sharpest. Gray came into the postseason with a head of steam, pitching to a 5-3 record, 2.28 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, 8.3 K/9 and 0.7 HR/9 across the 55.1 innings covering the nine starts he logged from Aug. 5 on.
Gray went at least six innings in all but one of those outings, and he posted quality starts in each of his five road turns during the sample as well. For the season, the veteran right-hander was essentially just as effective on the road as he was at Fenway, recording a 10-3 mark, 2.74 ERA, 8.3 K/9 (compared to 7.5 at home) and 0.9 HR/9 across 88.2 innings.

Gray enjoyed plenty of success in his two regular-season meetings with the Yankees as well, first authoring a quality start at Yankee Stadium back on June 5 before blanking New York over 7.1 innings with nine strikeouts in Boston on June 28. Overall, he pitched to a 1.98 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 12:3 K:BB in the two starts, and current Yankees hitters own a collective middling .230 average and .294 OBP against Gray in 176 career plate appearances.
On the other side, Fried also has an extensive track record of success against his opponent, holding current Red Sox bats to a collective .206 average and .255 OBP across a similarly large sample of 145 plate appearances. The left-hander had better numbers on the road than at home during his injury-shortened season, but Fried still pitched to a very respectable 3.42 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 0.8 HR/9 over 47.1 frames at Yankee Stadium.

Fried was even better at home during his 2025 Yankees debut campaign when he won a career-high 19 games, as he delivered an 8-2 record, 2.37 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 0.4 HR/9 in that split. He was dominant in two starts against the Red Sox this season, posting an 0.77 ERA and WHIP while supplying a 10.0 K/9 in 11.2 innings. Then, Boston checked into the postseason having had a particularly difficult time against lefties on the road in the final month of play, posting a .216 average, .299 wOBA and -2.4 wRAA in that split.
In terms of our player prop, we'll stick with the pitching end of the equation as well and bank on Gray, who went six innings or more in 22 of 29 starts during the regular season, to get to at least 5.1 innings, a benchmark he's well-equipped to reach given his typically above-average control.
