2017 Fantasy Outlook
Aplin regressed significantly in 2016, hitting just .223/.300/.318 in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League for Triple-A Fresno. That line was down from 2015, when he hit .296 with 32 steals between Fresno and Double-A Corpus Christi. Strikeouts were a big part of the regression for the light-hitting Aplin, as his strikeout rate jumped to 22 percent, the highest of his career over the course of a full season. Aplin has never hit for much power, failing to reach double-digit home runs in any full season as a professional. He does have speed, however, and reached 20 steals for the fifth year in a row. Aplin will be hoping for a reset in 2017 following a rough 2016 campaign, but those in the fantasy game shouldn't get their hopes up. Houston is loaded with outfielders at the major league level, so even if Aplin does turn things around, it's unlikely he will see a major league diamond in 2017.
