Green was outrighted to Triple-A New Orleans on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Green was designated for assignment Wednesday and predictably attracted little interest due to his .236/.302/.327 batting line. He'll likely remain at Triple-A for most of the season unless another injury hits the left side of the Marlins' infield.

Green played reasonably well for Boston, first as a shortstop and then in a utility role last season, but was exposed as an average defender the more games he was required to play. He was certainly appreciated by the Red Sox, but they knew he wasn't a long-term solution at short. A late-season leg injury revealed a problem with his back that required offseason surgery. He enters 2010 as a free agent and must prove to be recovered from the surgery before inking with another team as a utility infielder. He had career-highs in homers (six) and RBI (35) with Boston in 2009, but it's unlikely he'll get a similar number of plate appearances in 2010.
Green attended the Winter Meetings to promote himself to teams in need of a utility infielder. He'll likely catch on somewhere because of his versatility in the field, but his game is best suited for the National League, where he can be effectively substituted as a late-inning defensive replacement.
Green did not contribute much offensively last season. If he sticks with the Rays, he won't see much more than utility infielder playing time.
Green held his own while filing in for Marcus Giles when he was hurt for two months, hitting .276 and playing solid defense. However, Green's poor eye at the plate limits his upside. He'll play a utility role in 2005.
Green struggled at Triple-A and will have to improve significantly to have anything other than a utility role with the Braves.
