Though he prepared to leave extended spring training last week for the start of short-season play, Pawelek sustained a fractured radial head in his non-throwing right elbow after tripping over his playstation and will miss at least six weeks, Scout.com reports.
ANALYSIS
"Because it was his non-throwing arm, he could be pitching some time in August," Cubs Farm Director Oneri Fleita acknowledged Tuesday. Pawelek insists he can pitch today -- broken arm and all. "It's doctor's orders now for six weeks, but when four weeks go by, I'm going to show them I can pitch," Pawelek said. "I can straighten my arm a little now, which before I couldn't do. I'm healing up pretty quickly. I can still pitch." We tend to be a little more pessimistic than players when it comes to their projected return from injury, but from Pawelek's comments this doesn't seem too serious, especially since it's to his non-pitching arm.

2006 Fantasy Outlook
The 20th overall pick in the 2005 draft, Pawelek pitched well in rookie ball last season with a robust strikeout rate and decent command. He throws a smooth fastball in the low 90s and mixes it well with his secondary pitches. Expect to see Pawelek at Low-A in 2006.
