The Dodgers reassigned Hicks to minor league camp Monday.

ANALYSIS
Hicks spent the past two seasons in the Giants' system, including 71 games with the big club in 2014. After inking a minor league contract with the division rival Dodgers in early February, he cobbled together a measly .200/.320/.200 line with a steal, three RBI and a run in 20 Cactus League at-bats. The 30-year-old middle infielder will act as organizational depth to start the campaign.

Hicks was called up in the summer when the A's had a number of middle-infield injuries. He had a huge opposite field walk-off home run against the Rangers, but did not do much beyond that, hitting .172 over a small number of at-bats. Hicks has shown some pop in the minors, but never hit for average. At 27, he is not a prospect, and his future appears to be that of a utility player after the Mets acquired him from the A's in November.

Hicks has decent power and an ability to take walks, but has struggled to make contact as he's struck out in one-third of his at-bats the last two seasons. He has power and speed that could help deeper fantasy leagues if he sticks in the majors in a utility role, but would be a batting average risk if he ever got extended playing time.

Hicks enters 2011 with a chance to win a utility role with the Braves. He showed decent power and an ability to take walks in the lower minors, but those traits didn't show up in his short stint at Triple-A before he was called up to the majors. He also struggles to make contact (he's averaged nearly a strikeout per game the past two years) which will hurt his batting average if he gets extended playing time. Still, he has power and speed that could help deeper fantasy leagues if he sticks in the majors in a utility role.
