ANALYSIS
Mathis posted a 4.03 ERA in 26 appearances, including 22 starts, between Triple-A New Orleans and Triple-A Indianapolis last season. He'll primarily be counted on for organizational depth.

Mathis spent most of his time in a long-relief role, occasionally dipping down to the minors for a few starts before resurfacing. The 1.148 WHIP and 3.16 ERA while with Texas is as good as it'll get, and he has all the looks of a typical long reliever.

Mathis followed the advice of any good accountant, getting hurt at the major league level instead of the minors. Aside from that, he had a pretty marginal role as a long reliever out of Texas' bullpen early in the season.
