Coulter signed a minor-league contract with the Giants on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
A 29-year-old outfielder who was a relevant prospect with the Brewers almost a decade ago, Coulter hit .297/.377/.533 with nine home runs and a 15.9 percent strikeout rate in 54 games at Triple-A last season with the Cardinals. It's possible Coulter could finally make his big-league debut in 2023 if he continues to thrive at Triple-A.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2016
2015
2013
Coulter wasn't able to replicate the ridiculous .930 OPS he produced with Low-A Wisconsin in 2014, but he still had a decent year at the plate in the pitcher-friendly confines of High-A Brevard County. In his first full season in right field, he slashed .246/.329/.397 while posting a career-low 16.2% strikeout rate and a career-high 82 percent contact rate. The 22-year-old is still developing, but a strong season while transitioning from behind the plate to the outfield is promising. Coulter is still a top prospect in the Brewers' organization, and if he can continue to improve while maintaining his power, he'll find his way to the majors soon enough even with the large number of outfield prospects in the system.
Coulter slid down prospect lists after struggling with the bat in 2013, but he put got back on track last season by putting up big numbers with Low-A Wisconsin en route to being named the Brewers’ 2014 minor league player of the year. Coulter made strides at the plate, raising his BB/K rate from 0.35 to 0.71, and he also showed a significant boost in power, finishing the season with an impressive .520 slugging percentage and 53 extra-base hits. Coulter was drafted as a catcher, but the Brewers will use him in right field moving forward to save him from the rigors of catching. The move from behind the plate hurts Coulter’s prospect status a bit, but that won’t matter much if he continues to rake.
Coulter wasted no time making an impression after being taken in the first round last year, posting an impressive .302/.439/.444 slash line in the Arizona League. He will not turn 20 until July, but his 37:40 BB:K ratio indicates he has an advanced eye at the plate. Even if Coulter begins his 2013 season in rookie ball at Helena, he could rise up the ranks quickly if he continues to hit.
