Perez signed a minor league contract with the Tigers that includes an invitation to spring training, Emily Waldon of 2080 Baseball reports.
ANALYSIS
Perez batted .276 to go with 27 doubles and 16 stolen bases for the Cubs' Triple-A affiliate in 2016, although he also has 246 major league at-bats to his name. His success during his time in the big leagues was quite limited though, so the 30-year-old will likely act as organizational depth going forward.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2016
2015
2014
Perez spent most of the 2015 season in the minors with Triple-A Sacramento, slashing .265/.306/.424 with seven homers and 17 stolen bases. He got the call to majors when injuries struck the Giants' outfield, but he didn't do much in his limited role. At age 29, Perez is no spring chicken, and he has shown that his bat can’t stick at the major league level. The Giants kept him in the organization because of his plus defense, but that has no consequence with fantasy owners. Perez could get new life after joining the Cubs in the offseason, but he'll likely begin the season in the minors and serve a similar role as last year.
After making the Giants' Opening Day roster, Perez was optioned to Triple-A on four occasions in 2014, collecting a larger share of his at-bats with the Grizzlies around his sporadic opportunities when injuries struck the big club. Perez has earned a reputation for being a good defender thanks to his plus-plus speed, but he hasn't hit big-league pitching yet in parts of two seasons with inconsistent at-bats (career .212/.261/.307). He has nothing left to prove at Triple-A, however, with a career .299/.339/.479 line with 17 home runs and 25 steals at the level through two seasons (149 games). A similar role is likely for Perez in 2015, but the best-case scenario for playing time would be an opportunity to carve out a start or two against lefties as part of a platoon.
Perez played his way into a major league opportunity after slashing .291/.323/.466 with 10 homers and 18 stolen bags in 409 plate appearances with Triple-A Fresno. Those numbers didn't translate to the majors as he only hit one home run and stole two bases with a below-average strikeout rate (21.6 K%) in 97 plate appearances with the Giants. Perez exhibited excellent defense and made several impressive grabs in left field, so his time in the majors wasn't a complete bust. He could serve as the right-handed side of the platoon in left field should the Giants opt not to sign a free agent at that position this offseason.
