Welcome back, Horshack; DiFelice was let go by the Mets over the winter and signed an NRI deal with the Rays. DiFelice, of course, was an orginial expansion draft Devil Ray; once a participant in the franchise's hideous past, he'll get a glimpse of the club's future. He'll compete for the number two catcher spot this spring.
DiFelice bounced between Triple-A Norfolk and the parent club in 2005 and could be invited to spring training, though he will in all likelihood open 2006 somewhere in the minors.
DiFelice has some pop but just doesn't hit enough to maintain a major-league presence. The Royals had hoped he would be the offensive supplement to Brent Mayne. Don't expect much with Detroit either. He's five years removed from having 250 at bats.
After going .230/.297/.362, the Cardinals wisely declined their $900,000 option on DiFelice, who will turn 34 next May.
