Past Fantasy Outlooks
2004
2003
Karros played well enough early last season for manager Dusty Baker to delay the development of Hee Seop Choi who has since been traded for Derrek Lee, but by season's end, Karros' numbers were pretty pedestrian, especially for a first baseman. Because of the Lee trade, Karros, who went .286/.340/.446 with 12 home runs in 336 at-bats, will have to find employment outside of Chicago. He'll likely catch on somewhere as a right-handed "power" source off the bench.
Karros was sent to the Cubs along with Mark Grudzielanek in the my-flat-tire-for-your-flat-tire deal for Todd Hundley this fall. Karros' numbers have been awful the last two seasons, especially for a first baseman – OPS of .691 and .722, respectively – and at age 35, we don't expect him to get any better. He'll back up Hee Seop Choi at first base and supply a little pop (at least in theory – if you don't check his slugging percentages) off the bench in 2003.
