Salmon hasn't played anything close to a full season over the past three years and is trying to come back from what many considered to be career-ending injuries. He'll be in camp as a non-roster invitee and it's possible he could land a bench job and see a few at-bats at DH, but at this point in his career anything he can contribute should be considered gravy.
Salmon is recovering from surgery to both his knee and shoulder and will likely miss most, if not all of the 2005 season. At a playing age of 37, you have to wonder whether this is the end of Salmon’s illustrious career. Either way, you can cross him off your draft lists, as Salmon is not expected on the field any time soon.
Salmon did roughly what was expected of his last season - 19 homers, 71 RBI, .273/.372/.460. While these are below average numbers for an outfielder, they're enough to get him at least 450 more at-bats next year. At 35, there's no reason to think he's completely washed up. Expect a slight decline from last season's totals, but he'll still contribute in AL leagues in 2004.
Rebounded in 2002 after a poor 2001 season to hit 22 home runs and drive in 88 runs, also increasing his batting average by 59 points. However for the second consecutive season, he missed 25 games, this time because of a wrist injury and will remain an injury risk in 2003.
