Past Fantasy Outlooks

2003
Segui’s season was cut short again due to knee surgery. Although he hit .339 in the limited action, in all likelihood he will be forced to retire after playing an average of 48 games his last four seasons with the Orioles.
Segui is in the final year of a contract. He's coming off wrist surgery and has missed 312 games due to injury the past three years. Even had Segui been perfectly healthy with no past history of injury, the contract that the O's gave him would have been foolish. With his history, it was a case of General Manager Malpractice. The Orioles are trying to convince Segui to sit out the 2004 season, in order to collect on the insurance payments on his contract.
An injury to Segui's wrist cut his season short to just 26 games. He's back largely because he has a large contract. He will likely earn some at bats as a left-handed DH and backup first baseman.
