Williams is interested in a major league job again after playing in the World Baseball Classic, NY Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
It's doubtful that the Yankees would bring him back, while at age 40 the interest in Williams around the league is probably very limited.

Injuries in the New York outfield bumped Williams back into the starting lineup for many more games than the Yankees had planned for in 2006. Even at 38, Williams has the bat to contribute as a fourth outfielder and defensively, he can play all three of the outfield positions. His future with the Yankees is in question due to the breakout of Melky Cabrera last season. If he doesn't return to the Yankees, there is a good chance that Williams will call it a career.
Williams will return to the Yankees in a limited capacity as a reserve outfielder/DH. The years have definitely caught up with him as he's seen big drops in his power and eye at the plate. He doesn't offer much upside in a limited role.
Williams is clearly a player on the decline. When the end comes, it could come fast, so let someone else overpay for him. He'll likely play more DH this season as his defense continues to slip in centerfield.
Williams might head into 2004 as the starting DH with the signing of Kenny Lofton. Williams took a very long time to record any sort of hot streak in 2003, ending up hitting .263 with only 15 HR and 64 RBI in 445 at-bats. He looks like his best days are behind him and has really become a liability in the field with his bad jumps, dwindling range and very poor arm. He'll be a fantasy contributor but don't let his reputation get the better of your purchase price on Auction Day.
Williams is as steady as they come offensively, posting an OPS of over .900 and scoring 100 or more runs in seven straight seasons. Williams' home run total (19) was off a bit last season and his slugging was down bit (.493), but a nagging shoulder injury, which has healed since, probably explains that. Williams doesn't run as much as he used to, and his defense is getting worse every season, but that shouldn't stop him at age 34 from putting up solid numbers at the plate.
