Wilson still has a little bit of value, but his days as a 30-30 threat are way in the past. He showed his versatility with St. Louis, playing all three outfield spots during a 33-game stint with the Cardinals, but he’ll likely get a regular gig at left field in 2007.
He won't ever be a basestealing threat again, but Wilson showed he can still hit for some power even outside of Coors Field. He'll start in either corner outfield spot for the Astros, and could have a nice season if healthy.
Wilson never really found his timing after returning from knee surgery in June 2004, and an injury to the same knee put him out for all of September. He's in the prime of his career and never had the injury bug before last season, so if he can stay healthy and isn't dealt away from the thin air of Coors Field, look for him to rebound, save his stolen bases.
Wilson dispelled the notion that he would somehow strike out less in Colorado that he had in previous seasons, whiffing 139 times in a Rockies uniform last season. As a true roto-type player, Wilson continues to post solid numbers and had his best season to date in 2003, establishing career highs in homers, BA, RBI, hits and doubles. There's no reason to expect Wilson to decline at this point in his career, but it might be a bit overzealous to expect him to continue to improve. Still, there's not a one among us that wouldn't take Wilson's .280/35/140 statline in a heartbeat. Throw in the dozen-plus bags he swipes and he just might command the highest salary at your draft this spring.
Wilson's value should get a huge boost in Coors Field. In fact, Wilson might be very well suited to take maximum advantage of Coors. Wilson has a decent chance of hitting 30-40 homers in his new digs.
