Nunez was outrighted to Triple-A Gwinnett, but elected to become a free agent, Baseball America reports.

ANALYSIS
Nunez pitched just one inning for the Braves after he was called up in September. However, he had a strong season at Triple-A Gwinnett with a 2.16 ERA and 79:37 K:BB ratio in 83.1 innings. Even though he'll be 35 next season, he could get a shot to win a major league job in a bullpen next spring.

His big workload from seasons past seemed to catch up with him, and Nunez simply couldn't get anyone out in 2003. Assume he's done until he proves otherwise.

Nunez quickly won the closer's job out of spring training, but somewhere around the All-Star break Jeff Torborg decided he couldn't do the job anymore, even though his June swoon was hardly what you'd call a total breakdown. Don't pay top dollar for him just because he led the club in saves, but given Torborg's itchy trigger finger he's as likely as anyone to do it again in 2003.
