Good pitched well at Triple-A again last season but saw only a brief stint with the Tigers. He'd probably be an effective long reliever if given an extended opportunity.
Good went on the DL in July with elbow soreness and finally had surgery in September to take out some bone chips. He should be good to go for spring training, but he'll compete for no more than a long relief role in camp, if that. Arizona's not likely to put him back in the starting rotation, so he'll likely have little roto impact.
Good was one of a number of Arizona pitching prospects that didn't appear ready for the majors in 2003, but had to come up anyway due to a rash of injuries. His 5.29 ERA in 66 big league innings is reflective of how well he pitched; his WHIP of 1.36 seems OK, but he gave 15 home runs in those 66 innings, which isn't good. He had to be shut down towards the end of the season after a string of poor outings back in Triple-A. He'll get a chance to make the Arizona rotation in the spring, but we don't like his chances.
Good's career was derailed by elbow surgery in 2000, but he's bounced back. He went 13-6, 3.50 in 27 starts at Double-A El Paso in 2002, with 128 K's and just 26 walks in 178 innings. Good turns 24 this summer; he'll start 2003 in Triple-A and could get a crack at a midseason call-up for Arizona. He might be a decent midyear pickup in your league this summer.
