Pridie signed a minor league contract with the Diamondbacks on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Pridie spent 2016 in Japan with the Hiroshima Toyo Carp. He has not played in more than 10 major league games in any season besides 2011, and is a career .216 hitter in the big leagues. At 33, he'll most likely serve as organizational depth for Arizona.

The 32-year-old journeyman had a strong year in Triple-A, but was not able to parlay that into more than a cup of coffee in the Majors in 2015. Pridie dropped a 20/20 season for Triple-A Nashville and also hit .310 in the process. Aside from one run of 208 with the Mets in 2011, Pridie has never played more than 10 games in any Major League season. His 2015 year in Triple-A is likely the byproduct of a 14-year Minor League veteran taking advantage of young pitchers. Pridie was released from his contract in October by the A's in order to play in Japan and will spend the 2016 season overseas.
The Mets claimed Pridie off waivers from the Twins in February 2010 and viewed him as a possible fifth outfielder. He failed to make the team out of spring training and was limited to just 40 games at Triple-A Buffalo due to a strained right hamstring that eventually shut him down after June. Pridie has the speed and defense to win a major league bench job, along with some power, but his shaky plate discipline limits his upside. Look for him to open 2011 back at Buffalo with a possible callup if injuries occur for the parent club.
Pridie looked like he could contend for a reserve outfielder role or even a starting job after coming over to the Twins in a 2007 trade, but his career has stalled at Triple-A. Pridie has the speed and defense to win a major league bench job, and has power and speed to help fantasy teams, but his shaky plate discipline took a step back last season and limits his upside. His speed will make him worth keeping an eye on if he gets any time in the majors.
Pridie was included in the Delmon Young-Matt Garza trade and a slow start to the season at Triple-A likely cost him an opportunity to get a shot at a starting outfield job with the Twins when Michael Cuddyer got hurt. Pridie has conspicuous strengths: speed, occasional bursts of power and good defense. He also has seriously bad plate discipline. He had a strong second half at Triple-A and earned a September call-up. He could win a reserve outfield job this spring and could provide some steals off the bench. If he can improve his plate discipline, he could be a fantasy sleeper if he finds playing time.
Pridie has finally recovered from a knee injury that cost him most of the 2005 season, and he more than held his own in his two-month stint at Durham after a midseason promotion from Double-A. However, the Rays have a ton of outfield depth, so Pridie went to Minnesota as part of the Delmon Young-Matt Garza deal. With some performance now supporting a great tool set, Pridie could make some noise in his new organization, and has a chance to break camp as the fourth outfielder.
Selected by Minnesota from Tampa Bay in the Rule 5 draft this winter, he's a nice tools prospect. It'll be interesting to see if the Twins really try to carry Pridie on the big league roster for a full season, or if they use the knee injury that cost him most of last season (he ran into the outfield wall on Opening Day) as an excuse to hide him on the DL all year.
Pridie showed some power at low Single-A in 2004, but he was basically repeating the level. He'll move up to either high Single-A or Double-A in 2005, and that'll be a truer test of his potential.
Here's someone to stash away in your keeper league. Pridie was drafted out of high school in the second round by the Devil Rays in 2002. He signed quickly and hit lights-out in the Rookie League (.368, seven homers, 13 steals in 67 games, OPS of .957), then hit .344 in eight games at Low-A ball before the season ended. Clocked a 4.0 home-to-first, covers an entire area code in center field. May not make the bigs until 2005, but he's done well so far.
