The Orioles released Ysla from their Triple-A affiliate in Norfolk on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Ysla was bumped off the roster after the Orioles needed to clear a spot at Norfolk for infielder Jose Rondon, who had been outrighted to Triple-A. The 27-year-old Ysla has yet to reach the big leagues and posted a 6.62 ERA and 1.79 WHIP across 85.2 innings with Norfolk this season.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2017
2016
Ysla bounced back in 2016 following a poor 2015 season pitching in the High-A California League, a very hitter-friendly league, where he ended with a 6.21 ERA in 79 innings. In 2016, he threw 55.1 innings with Double-A Portland, finishing with a much-improved 4.07 ERA. He finished the season with Triple-A Pawtucket, though he logged just one inning in his time there. The southpaw posted a strong 9.8 K/9 strikeout rate, largely in part due to his mid-to-high-90s fastball and strong changeup. Giving a free pass to just 11.1 percent of hitters in Double-A last season, his walk rate isn't out of control either. Fans can probably expect Ysla to start 2017 in Double-A or Triple-A, and it's unlikely he'll see much time on the major league mound, though a callup at some point isn't out of the question for the 24-year-old lefty.
Ysla flamed out as a starter in the High-A California League in 2015 -- not the first pitcher to do that in a league notoriously favorable to hitters -- before he was jettisoned to Boston at waiver-trade deadline. Despite his struggles, Ysla maintained a 10.7 K/9 rate. He had a couple of relief appearances at High-A Salem and looks destined to become a full-time reliever. His fastball sits in the mid 90s, which can jump on hitters because of deception in his delivery. Ysla mixes in a slider that's a potential plus offering as he's shown command in and out of the zone. The changeup, which lags behind his slider, rounds out his repertoire. He's an intriguing bullpen arm that could evolve into a 7th/8th inning role. He's likely to start the season at Double-A Portland.
