ANALYSIS
The 29-year-old Martinez split time last season between the Angels and Athletics organizations, playing for both teams' Triple-A affiliates. He has 32 games of major league experience and could serve as the insurance callup at catcher should Christian Vazquez or Ryan Hanigan suffer injury in Boston. The Red Sox inked two veteran backstops -- Humberto Quintero being the other -- and either Martinez or Quintero can replicate the role of Dan Butler last season. Butler, who spent some time at Boston last season, was designated for assignment in the offseason and traded to Washington in January 2015.

2013 Fantasy Outlook
Martinez was acquired by the Rangers last winter to provide organizational catching depth and he did just that, squatting behind the dish 65 times at Triple-A Round Rock and taking a few token squats in Arlington. He doesn't project to have any share of the catching duties in 2013 despite the departure of Mike Napoli to Boston via free agency, so look for him to spend most of his time this season back at Triple-A after being claimed off waivers by Baltimore in January.
