Sellers was traded to the White Sox on Thursday for a player to be named later or cash considerations and has been assigned to Triple-A Charlotte, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

ANALYSIS
Sellers has not appeared in a major league game this season, but the versatile infielder posted a .288/.339/.308 slash line across three minor league levels this season. He will take Micah Johnson's spot on the Triple-A Charlotte roster after Johnson was placed on the disabled list earlier Thursday.

Sellers no longer has minor league options left. That's the good news. The bad news is that he's hit .198/.280/.294 over parts of four big league seasons. Now 29, he's increasingly likely to be outrighted from the 40-man roster. The interest in Sellers has always been for his defense, as there is nothing in the power or speed departments for the rotisserie crowd to get excited about even if his path to playing time becomes clear.

A back injury limited Sellers to just 44 big league at-bats in 2012, and he delivered a .205 average with one home run. Sellers is a high-energy guy who can play multiple positions, but he's yet to prove in his two big league stints that he can hit major league pitching consistently. He'll compete for a roster spot this spring, but more than likely Sellers will be booking a flight to Triple-A Albuquerque in March.

The best thing going for Sellers has to be his nickname. Derived from a highly-tattooed body, Sellers has been tagged "Cellblock." Beyond that, there's probably not a whole lot to see here. Sellers did bat .304/.400/.537 in 270 at-bats for Triple-A Albuquerque last year, but when exposed to big league pitching, Sellers dipped to .203/.283/.301 in 123 at-bats, including a .150 average in September. By signing the likes of Adam Kennedy this winter, the Dodgers pretty much let us know what they think of Sellers.

Oakland selected Sellers in the sixth round of the 2005 draft, out of high school in Huntington Beach, California.
