Widger had an awful season, batting .172 for the White Sox and Orioles before ending his season early due to a painful pinched nerve. This might be the end of the road for Widger.
Widger did for the White Sox exactly what you want from a backup catcher: work well with the staff, give the manager a platoon option, and make himself a fan favorite with the occasional timely hit. A couple more seasons of that, and he'll be hosting his own Chicago area TV show, "Widge's Pitches."
Widger will back up Jorge Posada for the Yankees this season and supply a modicum of pop for a second catcher.
