He missed all of 2003 after undergoing surgery in March to repair a torn labrum in his pitching shoulder. He's 8-7 lifetime with six saves and a 4.58 ERA in 116 games - all with St. Louis.

He's missed a season and a half with shoulder problems, and he wasn't anything special before then. Take only if consonants are a category.

Stechchulte notched six wins in 2002, most of them early in the season, but that was mostly about being in the right game at the right time. His 21/17 K/BB ratio in 32 IP isn’t good, and his 4.78 ERA didn’t help, either. Stechschulte was shut down last August with elbow and shoulder problems, but he should compete for a middle relief spot if he’s healthy in the spring.
