The 2000 first-round draft pick struggled most of the past two seasons, but saw a ray of light at the end of last season after moving to the bullpen at Triple-A Rochester. He was 3-1 with a 1.63 ERA in 11 relief appearances and earned a late season call up to the big leagues. The Twins haven't given up on his mid-90s fastball, but he'll likely need to prove his turnaround as a reliever is for real at Triple-A before being considered for a big league job again.

Johnson gave up six runs in six innings against Richmond in his first start since moving into the rotation at Triple-A Rochester. "It gives him a chance to use all of his pitches and see where he goes from there," Jim Rantz, the Twins' director of minor leagues, told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "We've tried him as a setup man, we've tried him as a closer. I thought his best role would be as a set-up guy, but we needed a starter."
