Jeremy Griffiths

Griffiths began his rise in the Mets organization following a strong second half in 2002 at Double-A Binghamton and continued his ascent in Triple-A in 2003. He earned a couple of spot starts with the parent club during the 2003 season and operated as the fifth starter in September. He could be in the mix to keep that spot if the Mets do not sign someone in the free agent market. Griffiths has a low-90s fastball along with a developing slider and changeup. Last year he showed a better mound presence, something he had been lacking in the past. Griffiths could be a sleeper in 2004, especially in NL-only leagues.

The 1999 third-round pick with the Mets went 8-6, 3.89, with a 126/54 K/BB ratio and 157 hits allowed in 153 Double-A innings this season. He's a finesse guy who has routinely allowed a hit per inning throughout his pro career, and might be best cast as a situational reliever once he reaches the majors.
