Past Fantasy Outlooks

Perez arrived at Double-A in 2002 and his career promptly stalled, stranding him there until the Nationals' need for working arms led to his major league debut in September. He didn't pitch particularly well, walking 13 batters while striking out only nine in 21 innings, but he kept runs off the board and that was probably good enough to get him a long look in the spring. He could wind up in just about any role on the staff if he wins a spot, but Perez is a long shot to have real fantasy value.
After back-to-back ugly years at Double-A, the D-Backs took Perez off their 40-man roster during the winter. We don't see much chance of Perez cracking the bigs in '04.
After an encouraging start at Single-A in 2002 (3-2, 2.51 in 32 innings), Perez got roughed up when he was promoted to Double-A (3-8, 5.47 in 97 innings at El Paso). Expect the Diamondbacks to start him out at Double-A again in 2003; no MLB roto impact this season, but at 21, he still has a chance to impress.
