The Tigers traded for Colyer in April 2004 to help strengthen their bullpen, but he ended up being Detroit's most inconsistent pitcher. He struggled with his pitch placement throughout the season. Although he finished 2004 in the majors, he was demoted to Triple-A Toledo on a couple of occasions and may even start the 2005 season there if he struggles during spring training.
Colyer rode the shuttle between Triple-A and the majors in 2003 and pitched effectively in both places. He will try to impress in spring training to earn a more permanent role in the bullpen in 2004.
