Watson has been invited to spring training by the Phillies, the Philadelphia Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
He'll compete for a reserve job this spring, though it's very possible that he'll surface as a regular at Triple-A Ottawa if he doesn't do enough to break camp with the Phils.

Watson has proven he can hit for a good batting average at Triple-A, play solid outfield defense and steal a few bases, but after three years of trying he hasn't been able to turn that skill set into a major league career. A bench job is probably the best he can hope for.
Watson posted a batting average-fueled .400 OBP at Triple-A, but fell on his face in a brief major league trial. He seems more likely to become a reserve outfielder/pinch runner than the next Brett Butler.
Watson is the latest in a line of throwback leadoff candidates for the franchise, guys like Endy Chavez and Peter Bergeron who slap the ball and run fast. Like his predecessors, Watson will need to learn plate discipline to have a chance of being something special in the big leagues -- the team keeps looking for the next Tim Raines, but winds up with low-rent Lance Johnson's instead.
Watson hit .319 for Double-A Harrisburg, putting him on the Expos' prospect map. He has no power, little patience, and hasn't yet learned how to steal bases, but at 22 he's got time to figure things out. We'll see how he does in Triple-A before assuming he's anything more than the next Peter Bergeron though.
