Sardinas (ankle) was activated off the 60-day disabled list and outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk after clearing waivers.
ANALYSIS
Sardinas missed the first three months of the season with back and ankle injuries, and the Orioles opted not to bring him back onto the 40-man roster as he comes off the 60-day disabled list. The 25-year-old played four rehab games with Norfolk and will remain there for the foreseeable future.

Sardinas was acquired by the Padres in August and was quickly added to the team's 25-man roster as the organization went through the process of evaluating pieces for the future in the final weeks of the season. At a glance, Sardinas' 66-game body of work in the big leagues last season offers little to get excited about, but his value to big league clubs comes from his above-average defensive work around the infield. Sardinas appears to be the favorite to hold down the starting shortstop job in the short term, as the Padres are essentially punting the position in 2017, with Jose Rondon serving as his closest competition. Turning 24 in May, Sardinas isn't necessarily a finished product as a hitter, but his .278/.313/.348 career line at Triple-A is nothing to write home about. Still, he is a solid bet to provide double-digit steals with a batting average that won't kill fantasy teams, likely from the bottom third of the batting order.
After arriving in Milwaukee from Texas in the Yovani Gallardo trade last offseason, Sardinas took on a role in the Brewers' organization similar to the one he filled with the Rangers. He bounced between Triple-A Colorado Springs and Milwaukee throughout the year, seeing more playing time and significantly more success with the former. Although he doesn't have any real power to speak of and only makes leave-average contact, he is a solid defender and has proven that he can play all around the infield, which will work in his favor moving forward. Sardinas will probably compete for a spot on the Mariners' 25-man roster after being traded again over the winter, but a utility role seems like a best-case scenario.
Sardinas saw more time in the big leagues in 2014 than the Rangers likely had planned, in large part because of Jurickson Profar's absence. After showing the ability to draw a few walks and get on base at a good clip at High-A in 2013, Sardinas struggled with the bump to Double-A, while showing his best line at Triple-A Oklahoma City over a 60-game stretch in the Pacific Coast League. A good defender at short, Sardinas' glove may enable him to earn big league paychecks for a long time. Sardinas –- who turns 22 in May –- will have an opportunity to begin the season as the Brewers' utility man after being acquired from Texas in the Yovani Gallardo deal in January.
Sardinas had a nice season, largely at High-A Myrtle Beach (.298/.358/.360 in 97 games), and profiles well defensively at shortstop. He has virtually no power, however, and a semi-long injury history, making his eventual path to the majors somewhat sketchy. The most likely outcome here is a utility role for a contending team, and he's a player Texas can afford to dangle in trades given the organizational depth up the middle, even after the Ian Kinsler trade.
