RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
2014
2013
  1. Alberto Cabrera 2014 Preseason Outlook
There are some interesting numbers in Cabrera's minor league career, including a 74:14 K:BB ratio in 2012, but for the most part, his career has been one full of baserunners. His strikeout rate has always been decent, but the walks -- including 23 in 27.2 big league innings -- are a real problem. He'll likely be on the Iowa-Chicago shuttle this year, but his fantasy value will be minimal unless he lucks into a ninth-inning role, and even then, his skill set indicates he wouldn't be too successful with that job.
  2. Alberto Cabrera 2013 Preseason Outlook
Cabrera was called up after the Cubs dealt away most of their pitching staff and predictably struggled in 21.2 relief innings. At Double-A, he dominated with a 45:10 K:BB ratio in 35.2 innings. He had an even more stellar 29:4 K:BB mark at Triple-A in 19.1 innings, but gave up 29 hits and four homers in that span. The Cubs are reportedly converting him back into a starter this season which means he'll likely hone his craft in the high minors - at least for the first few months.
