RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
2014
2013
  1. Jamie Callahan 2014 Preseason Outlook
Callahan, a second-round pick in 2012, showed improvement from the time he started in the Fall Instructional League in 2012 to the time he reached short-season Lowell in 2013. He ironed out his delivery and displayed better stuff for the Spinners, holding opponents to a .221 batting average while striking out 54 batters in 59.2 innings. If he continues to develop as he did last season, Callahan will be an intriguing young arm in the lower level of the system. He throws a curve and change, both still developing and in need of consistency, and introduced a cutter toward the end of the season. Callahan is expected to start the season at Low-A Greenville and should be a rising prospect if he continues on his current development path.
  2. Jamie Callahan 2013 Preseason Outlook
Callahan is a second-round draft pick who got some work in the Gulf Coast instructional leagues and is learning how to pitch. He has a low-90s fastball and curve that shows potential to develop as he matures. At this stage of his career, his delivery is on the jerky side and there are some moving parts going on. He'll most likely stay back in extended spring training to smooth out the delivery in time for placement at Short-Season Lowell.
