Calixte was reassigned to minor-league camp Monday, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Calixte went 7-for-25 (.280) with a home run over 17 games this spring. Although he's in line to report to Triple-A Sacramento when the season begins, Calixte could be called up to the big club if the Giants' outfield gets hit by injuries. However, after hitting .143/.185/.163 over 29 games in the Show last season, San Francisco may opt to look elsewhere if the need for a reserve outfielder arises.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2016
2015
Calixte spent almost all of 2015 with Triple-A Omaha and failed to open any eyes. In 394 plate appearances, Calixte only managed to slash .229/.287/.339 and struck out 21.3 percent of the time. He proved to be a nice speed threat, as he stole 22 bases in 25 attempts, which bodes well in a Royals organization that highly values speed. He also appeared all over the infield and outfield in the minors, which could help him make it as a utility option if he can't hack it as an everyday player. Calixte did not impress in his short stint in the big leagues, only appearing twice and going 0-3 with a run scored. Although he is only 23 years old, Calixte's realistic ceiling appears to be that of a utility option as long as he's with the Royals. Realistically, that is probably his upside anywhere given his light-hitting ways.
The Royals added Calixte to the 40-man roster in order to protect him from the Rule 5 draft this winter. He spent his second straight season at Double-A Northwest Arkansas, and the results were actually worse than his 2013 numbers -- including a paltry .288 OBP. Listed at 5-foot-11 and 160 pounds, Calixte has a surprising amount of power for his size, but his pitch recognition remains a work in progress and there are questions as to whether he can develop into anything more than a versatile utility player at the big league level. Turning 23 in February, Calixte may begin a third straight year at Double-A, but his promotion to Triple-A could be the result of the team's organizational depth chart rather than merit, with Raul Mondesi likely to advance from High-A in 2015. There is still some breakout potential here, but the Royals may be best served to shop him for help at an area of need with Alcides Escobar holding the big league job, Christian Colon positioned as a utility option, and Mondesi carrying the shortstop of the future designation.
