RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
2006
2005
2004
2003
  1. John Flaherty 2006 Preseason Outlook
Randy Johnson turned his season around when Flaherty became his personal catcher, so it was a surprise to see the Yankees replace him with journeyman Kelly Stinnett. He'll now try to replace Doug Mirabelli as Boston's backup and Tim Wakefield's personal catcher. He won't hit much in any role.
  2. John Flaherty 2005 Preseason Outlook
Flaherty is an excellent backup catcher and got quite a few big hits for the Yankees in 2004. If your league is deep enough that you have to draft backup catchers, you could do worse.
  3. John Flaherty 2004 Preseason Outlook
Flaherty agreed to a one-year, $775,000 contract to serve as Jorge Posada's backup again. Yankees fans just hope they don't find themselves in a situation again where they need to get a hit from Flaherty to stay alive in a World Series game.
  4. John Flaherty 2003 Preseason Outlook
He'll probably hook up with a new team in the offseason, almost certainly in a reserve catcher role. If he's used as an everyday regular, he's miscast; let someone else take him in your draft if that's the case. If a team signs him to a 40-games-a-year “veteran leadership” role, he may worth a dollar play in deep AL- or NL-only leagues, because he can hit a little on occasion.
