Carson Benge

Carson Benge

23-Year-Old OutfielderOF
New York Mets
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Benge had a great 2025 season and his popularity is trending up after president of baseball operations David Stearns singled him out as a prospect who could make the Opening Day roster in 2026. The No. 19 overall pick in 2024, Benge was a two-way player in college, and like his friend and org. mate Nolan McLean, that could mean there's a bit of untapped potential still as he gets further removed from two-way duty. A .188 BABIP in 24 games at Triple-A, despite a 52.8 Statcast HardHit%, tanked his numbers to close the season, but the lefty-hitting outfielder still slashed .281/.385/.472 with 15 home runs, 22 steals, a 13.1 percent walk rate and a 17.7 percent strikeout rate in 116 games across the three highest levels of the minors. Benge doesn't have any obvious flaws as a hitter, with the exception of his impact potential against same-handed pitchers (.326 SLG in 123 PA in 2025). While he may be an everyday player long term, the recent trend is for teams to platoon these types of young lefty hitters. He has a chance to play center field, but Benge would be a weapon in right field thanks to his big arm. Read Past Outlooks

August 22, 2026
Benge went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, two runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base during a 10-5 win Saturday over the White Sox.
Analysis
The rookie outfielder blasted his 16th long ball of the season off Tyler Schweitzer in the fifth inning to extend New York's lead. Benge continued his impressive stretch of late with his first three-hit game since Aug. 6. Over his last 15 games, the 23-year-old has slashed .356/.406/.610 with four homers and 11 RBI in 63 plate appearances.

2025 Fantasy Outlook
A lefty-hitting outfielder with strong tools across the board, Benge was the Mets' first rounder in 2024 after working as a two-way player at Oklahoma State. He's just an outfielder now, but his plus-plus arm still serves him well. Benge's got more projection and potential skills growth than the typical college pick, as he is an above-average hitter who uses the whole field but he hasn't yet learned how to consistently pull the ball in the air to take advantage of his above-average raw power. He had an excellent pro debut, slashing .273/.420/.436 with two home runs, three steals and a 14:11 K:BB in 15 games at Single-A, but both of his homers went out to the opposite field and he logged a 51.2 percent groundball rate. Benge is a good athlete, especially relative to the typical corner outfielder from college, and he may have the speed and instincts to play in center field if needed. He should spend all of his age-22 season in the minors and could debut in 2026.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Not considered for Peralta trade
OFNew York Mets
February 3, 2026
According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, Benge was not "seriously on the table" during negotiations between the Mets and Brewers in the Freddy Peralta trade.
Analysis
Benge is New York's top position-player prospect, so the organization was never going to be offering him up lightly, if at all. The 22-year-old has yet to make his MLB debut but will have an opportunity to make the Opening Day roster during spring training. Even if Benge begins the campaign back at Triple-A Syracuse, he may not have to wait long to make his big-league debut given that the Mets don't have an established starter in left field.
