Paredes signed a one-year, $800,000 contract to play for the Doosan Bears in South Korea, the Yonhap New Agency reports.

ANALYSIS
Paredes played in Japan last season for the Chiba Lotte Marines, but had just a .634 OPS. At age 29 next season, it doesn't look like he'll play in MLB again.

Obtained late in the 2014 season by the Orioles, Paredes burst on the scene early in 2015. Baltimore gave him full-time at-bats after he notched eight extra-base hits in his first eight games and hit safely in 26-of-29 games to start the year. Things went south from there and Paredes went homerless with a 41.2-percent K rate after the All-Star break. Paredes hit all 10 of his home runs against left-handed pitching, but that split also came with a 32.0-percent K rate on the season. He did benefit from generating a 23.4-percent line drive percentage on batted balls. When combining all the levels he has played from 2009-2014, Paredes has averaged 32 steals per season. He wound up with just four steals in 2015, so it is likely Paredes is capable of much more in that category. Following the acquisition of Pedro Alvarez, Paredes will be trying to make the Orioles' roster as a bench bat this year, so he can be ignored in most fantasy formats.

As utility players go, Paredes has the necessary versatility to continually be targeted by major league clubs when he becomes available (he was designated for assignment twice in 2014). Between Triple-A and the big leagues, Paredes appeared at six different positions in 2014, while going 25-for-26 as a basestealer. Paredes draws added intrigue thanks to his size (6-foot-3, 200 pounds), occasional flash of pop and ability to switch-hit. The hold up continues to be plate discipline, as Paredes strikes out too much (career 27.8% K% in the big leagues) for a player with very little patience (5.0% BB%). In the right circumstances, it's not unreasonable to think that he could be a useful five-category player, but his path to steady playing time is currently obstructed.

Paredes was claimed off waivers by the Marlins in November after spending much of last season playing for Houston's Triple-A affiliate. The switch-hitting outfielder possesses good speed and is versatile on defense, but he has limited exposure to the majors thanks to a paltry .234/.274/.311 slash line. A career .289 hitter in the minors, Paredes could produce solid numbers if given regular playing time, but that has been the challenge thus far in his career. With the Marlins, he has a good opportunity to change that if he's able to break camp with the club out of spring training. Even if he doesn't, he's still likely to spend time in the majors at some point this season while offering a potential cheap source of speed from the Miami bench.

The starting third baseman for the Astros just one year ago, Paredes spent most of 2012 in the minors looking for a new position. He hit for a high average, stole bases and showcased his power on the farm. In the majors, he has still yet to show that gap power you would expect to see from someone his size, and without it he is unlikely to stick in the middle infield let alone a corner-outfield spot. Paredes may not have proven he is ready for prime time, but the potential is there and this may be the season he pulls it all together. Most likely, he will work in something of a utility role if he becomes a steady part of the Astros' plans.

A virtual unknown heading into 2011, Paredes got a callup in August and showed a little bit of everything hitting mainly out of the six-hole. He doesn't have much power and his plate discipline leaves a lot to be desired, but he could hit 10 homers and steal 30 bases if given regular playing time. Paredes is extremely athletic and may even wind up at shortstop when all is said and done. The Astros should give him a chance, as they attempt to sort out what exactly they have in their youth corps.
