Hernandez has moved to the bullpen temporarily, the Providence Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
The move was made to accommodate the arrival of Alfredo Aceves, who was demoted to Triple-A Pawtucket from Boston. In two relief appearances, Hernandez has thrown a total of six innings, suggesting the organization is trying to keep him as stretched out as possible until Aceves is either promoted or traded.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2013

2011
Hernandez was the organization's most consistent pitcher at Double-A Portland in 2012 and that earned him a promotion to Triple-A, where the hitters were more challenging. He doesn't have the overpowering stuff to wipe out batters, so he needs to be pinpoint in his control. If he can show improvement in his curve, that would help in staying on a starter's trajectory, but his mix doesn't project to hold up well multiple times through an order at the major-league level. He'll open 2013 as a starter, with potential to see Boston as an emergency starter. A move to the bullpen is distinct possibility.
Hernandez skipped Low-A ball and went straight to High-A Salem in 2011. He was successful in locating his fastball and limiting opponents to a .241 average. As he ascends the ranks, location will be a key for Hernandez, who doesn't overpower hitters with his high-80s fastball. Along with location, control is important as well as improving his curveball. If he can get hitters in the upper levels of the minors out, the Red Sox will keep him on a starting pitcher's career path. Look for him to open the year at Double-A Portland.
Hernandez made one appearance for Short-Season Lowell last summer after being drafted in the seventh round out of the University of Miami, where he enjoyed pretty good success. He has good command of all of his pitches and shows great poise on the mound. Given his three years of college, Hernandez will likely jump to Low-A Greenville and may move up depending what he shows at that level. 2011 is all about learning where he is in his development.
