Sean Coyle

Coyle dealt with a few nagging injuries in 2015 that limited him to just 39 games. In between his inactive stints, Coyle had a rough go of it overall, hitting just .159 (20-of-126) while striking out in 29.7% of his 148 plate appearances. But he flashed the same power he’s showcased in recent years –- eight of his 20 hits went for extra bases –- which makes him so intriguing. The ability to power up from a middle infield spot keeps him relevant. Ultimately, it will be his ability to hone his aggressiveness, recognize pitches, and improve strike-zone awareness that will dictate how high he will rise in the major leagues. Defensively, he’s sound with good footwork around the second base bag and has increased his versatility with time at third base as well. He has just enough pop to handle a third-base assignment. Coyle’s got good instincts on the basepaths, too, successful on 87 percent of steal attempts. His spot on the 40-man roster may be in jeopardy, but there’s enough there to keep an organization interested.
