Robinson has been serving as a professional scout in the Marlins organization this season, effectively spelling an end to his playing career, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Robinson, who last appeared in the majors in 2016, spent the 2017 campaign exclusively at Triple-A Syracuse in the Nationals organization, batting .242/.315/.424 in 495 plate appearances. Since the 33-year-old likely would have been destined for another year in the minors had he signed with a team this winter, he decided to transition to his post-playing career. Robinson appeared in parts of four seasons in the big leagues with the Royals, Dodgers and Nationals, hitting .257 with 15 home runs and 62 RBI in 243 games.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2017
2016
2012
Dips in Robinson's 2016 slash line could be viewed as a disappointment. He surprised most people by posting an above league average .272/.358/.424 slash line with 10 home runs in 352 plate appearances in 2015, only to perform like the player we assumed he was all along in 2016. Robinson posted decent walk (8.9 percent) and strikeout (17.0 percent) rates, but he made a lot more soft contact last season (24.4 percent versus 16.3 percent in 2015), leading to a .259 BABIP. He'll be 32 before the start of this season, but despite his veteran presence, it'll be tough for him to crack the Opening Day roster following the Nationals signing of Adam Lind. This could leave Robinson in a Quad-A role for 2017.
After years of bouncing around a few different organizations and earning a reputation as a Quad-A player, Robinson finally got a real chance in the majors when Jayson Werth and Anthony Rendon both began the year on the DL for the Nationals, and he didn't waste it. The left-handed slugger provided the club with a solid bat off the bench, and when plantar fasciitis and oblique issues sidelined Ryan Zimmerman in the second half, it was Robinson who took over at first base without looking out of place. He'll turn 31 just before spring training, so he's not going to develop into anything more but he should be a useful insurance policy.
Robinson spent 2011 at Triple-A Omaha showing he's ready for a taste of the big leagues. Standing in his way are Billy Butler at DH and Eric Hosmer at first base, leaving no defined role ready for Robinson to step into with the Kansas City. At Triple-A he hit .326/.399/.533 with 23 home runs and 100 RBI over 572 plate appearances. Those types of numbers are nothing new for him as he showed an ability to hit for average, hit for power, and get on base at Double-A. Entering his age-27 season, Robinson is no longer considered much of a prospect, but rather a player that needs to be given a chance to show what he can do at the major league level. Unless given a change of scenery, it's likely that Robinson will spend much of 2012 waiting in the wings at Triple-A Omaha again.
