Signs deal to remain in Japan

Itoi inked a four-year, $16 million contract with the Hanshin Tigers in November, the Japan Times reports.
ANALYSIS
At age 35, Itoi has apparently put his objective of playing in MLB to rest with this deal. He's been a top hitter in Japan as he hit .306 with an .849 OPS and 53 stolen bases for the Orix Buffaloes last season.

Itoi signed a contract to remain with the Orix Buffaloes for 2015 and forgo trying to move to MLB, the Japan News reports. "I'm not considering that right now," he said. "We've put together a good team, and next season we want to get to the top."

Itoi has requested to be posted following the 2013 season, and was immediately traded from the Nippon Ham Fighters to the Orix Buffaloes. The trade was announced earlier today. There is no word yet on whether Orix will grant Itoi's request to be posted.
