Outrighted to Triple-A
PTexas Rangers
April 19, 2017
Wagner cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday, the Dallas Morning News' Evan Grant reports.
ANALYSIS
The Rangers now have 38 players on the 40-man roster, which gives them some flexibility for upcoming moves. Wagner has a 7.71 ERA, 1.93 WHIP and 8:8 K:BB in 14 innings at Triple-A this year.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2017
2016
Wagner was traded to Arizona before the season in the same deal that netted Jean Segura. While Segura made a huge impact for the Diamondbacks, Wagner only appeared in three games for Arizona back in April before being sent down to Triple-A. Then, in May, Wagner was placed on the DL with an undisclosed injury and he didn't pitch again the rest of the season. Claimed off waivers by the Rangers in November, Wagner's health will be a big factor heading into 2017. Assuming he's healthy, he looks like a fringe candidate to crack the roster out of spring training, but he does offer organizational depth. Most likely, he'll start at Triple-A, where he's only logged 26.2 innings in his career (he jumped from Double-A to MLB with the Brewers). Wagner flashed potential in 2015, when he went 11-5 with a 2.25 ERA and 1.15 WHIP at the Double-A level, but he's yet to translate that to success in the majors.
Wagner spent almost all of 2015 with Double-A Biloxi and showed that his excellent 2014 campaign was no fluke. In 25 starts, the right-hander went 11-5 with a 2.25 ERA and 1.15 WHIP. He also showed excellent command by posting a career-best 2.66 BB/9 to produce a 2.67 K/BB, another career-best. This was enough success for the Brewers to rush him into a few spot starts in the majors, but he struggled mightily, posting an 0-2 record with a 7.24 ERA. Wagner was flipped to the D-Backs in the Jean Segura trade, which significantly hurts his chances of getting big league starts anytime soon.
