ANALYSIS
"I just wasn't playing up to the expectations that I have set for myself throughout my entire career, and I wanted to walk away on my own terms," Galarraga said. This should mean a few extra at-bats for Doug Mientkiewicz.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2004
2003
He showed he can still smack a left-hander, even at 42, and wants to keep playing in 2004. The Snow/Galarraga platoon was quietly effective, and the Giants could do worse than to go back to it one more time.
If he makes the Giants' 25-man roster coming out of spring training in 2003, Galarraga will likely be used as a right-handed pinch-hitter, with a (very) occasional spot start at first base or at DH when the Giants play in an AL park. We'd be surprised if he got as many as 100 at-bats in that role; with half of those in Pac Bell Park, we don't see much roto value for the Big Cat in 2003.
